Dear InterPore Members,

The InterPore Council Committee met in hybrid format on the afternoon of May 18, 2026, at La Cité des Congrès in Nantes, just a few hours before the opening reception of the InterPore2026 Annual Conference. On a personal note, as a Nantaise myself, it was a real joy to welcome our porous media community — a community that is very dear to me — in my own city, and I truly hope you enjoyed your stay as much as I enjoyed having you here. What followed was a wonderful conference week, with strong attendance, packed sessions, and a warm and lively atmosphere throughout. A heartfelt thank you to the entire InterPore Office team, and to our local hosts in Nantes, for making it all happen so smoothly.

One of the most encouraging pieces of news shared at the meeting concerns the InterPore Journal, which has just received its first Scopus CiteScore of 1.8, based on 68 citations to 38 documents. For a journal in only its third year, this is a very strong signal that the Journal is finding its place in our community. Two issues have already appeared in 2026, a third is planned for August/September, and a Special Issue on Heat and Mass Transfer in Porous Media: Fundamentals and Applications is in preparation for 2027. The Journal now needs the community's continued support through high-quality submissions, and we especially encourage our National Chapters to help promote it among their members.

The InterPore Foundation also shared very positive news: since 2018, it has awarded approximately 115 Conference Grants, and the number of fundable applications keeps growing every year. To keep up with this demand, the Foundation is working to strengthen its donation base and will soon introduce an Awards Calendar to better coordinate the many awards it oversees. A new InterPore–Kimberly-Clark PhD Research Fellowship is also being finalized with Kimberly-Clark and will offer outstanding PhD students the opportunity to spend three months at a Kimberly-Clark research center — a nice new bridge between our community and industry.

Now that Nantes is behind us, all eyes are already turning to InterPore2027 in Rio de Janeiro (May 10–13, 2027), with the focus theme Imaging of Porous Media. Our Brazilian colleagues are preparing a warm welcome, and knowing them, we can expect not only excellent science but also the kind of hospitality, energy, and joie de vivre that Brazil is famous for. It promises to be a beautiful and inspiring edition, in one of the most iconic cities in the world. The next Council meeting will be scheduled after the summer break — until then, wishing you all a restful summer and looking forward to seeing many of you in Rio!
