The InterPore–Kimberly-Clark Industrial PhD Research Fellowship supports outstanding doctoral students advancing the science and engineering of porous media while fostering long-term collaboration between academia and industry. 

Established by InterPore and Kimberly-Clark Corporation, this annual fellowship recognizes one exceptional PhD student, offering hands-on industrial research experience and global academic recognition. 

What the Fellowship Includes

The selected fellow will receive:

• Official Certificate: Formal recognition of the fellowship award. 
• 3-Month Industrial Placement: A funded three-month research stay at a Kimberly-Clark research center in the US (e.g., Wisconsin or Georgia, subject to mutual agreement). 
• Research Stay Funding: Covered travel and accommodation expenses, plus a daily stipend (per diem) of $60 USD/day during the research stay. 
• Conference Travel Grant: A $1,200 USD travel grant to attend the InterPore Annual Meeting, where the award will be officially presented. 

Research Focus

The fellowship supports research—both experimental and computational—focused on processes in thin and/or swelling porous media, including but not limited to: 

• Transport phenomena 
• Multiphase flow 
• Deformation and swelling 
• Coupled experimental and modeling studies 

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Enrollment: Must be officially registered as a PhD student at a recognized university at the start of the fellowship year. 
• Visa/Work Authorization: Must be eligible to obtain the necessary visa or work authorization for the research stay in the United States (Kimberly-Clark will provide supporting documentation where applicable). 
• Exclusions: Previous recipients of this fellowship are not eligible. 

How to Apply & Nominate

Applications are accepted via two routes:

1. Nomination by the PhD supervisor. 
2. Self-nomination, provided written approval from the applicant's PhD supervisor is included. 

Key Program Timeline

Selection Process: Nominations are evaluated by a three-member Selection Committee comprised of InterPore and Kimberly-Clark representatives. Prior to the start of the fellowship, the recipient, supervisor, and Kimberly-Clark will finalize a research plan, expected deliverables, and supervision arrangements.
