Council's Corner: 9th Edition

Dear InterPore Members,

The InterPore Council met online on 4 September 2026, our first meeting after the summer break and after a very enjoyable week together in Nantes.

The InterPore journal continues to develop well. The third issue of 2026 has appeared and the fourth is in preparation, an application to Web of Science has been submitted, and the journal has strengthened its links with scholarly infrastructure through CORE and OA Switchboard. We also approved a change to the InterPore foundation bylaws to keep editorial decisions separate from financial ones, in line with publication-ethics good practice.

The nomination committee presented their final slate of candidates for the InterPore elections, and the Council thanks them for their work. In November you will elect one President-Elect, five Council members and three members of the Student Affairs Committee. Those elected will take office on 1 May 2027. Please do take the time to vote.

The InterPore–Kimberly-Clark Industrial PhD Research Fellowship is open for nominations. It supports one doctoral student with a funded three-month research stay at a Kimberly-Clark research center in the United States. The Council hopes this first fellowship will be a concrete example of what collaboration between academia and industry can look like and which could encourage other companies to build similar bridges with our community.

Several of you asked in Nantes how conference registration fees are used. The 2025 annual report, now published on the InterPore website, includes charts of the society's income and expenditure: more than 85% of income comes from our annual conferences, while roughly 47% of expenditure goes directly to conferences and around 40% to staff. The annual conference is the main driver sustaining the fantastic work the society does the rest of the year, and we felt that should be visible to our members.

Finally, preparations for InterPore2027 in Rio de Janeiro (10–13 May 2027) are well underway, with plenary and invited speakers announced, and abstract submissions are now open. InterPore turns 20 in 2028, and a jubilee committee is established to steer the celebrations. InterPore2029: six teams expressed interest and four have been invited to submit full bids. I am curious to see where we land, but wherever it is, it will take InterPore somewhere it has not been before.

Our next meeting is in January 2027. As always, the Council is here to represent you, and we welcome your suggestions and concerns. Looking forward to seeing many of you in Rio.

Marijn Boone, on behalf of the InterPore Council
