New Leadership for InterPore Student Awards and Grants Sub-Committee

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Marcel Moura as the new Chair, and Sarah Perez as the new Co-Chair, of the InterPore Student Awards and Grants Sub-Committee. Both bring a wealth of experience, dedication, and leadership to these roles, and the InterPore Office looks forward to working closely with them in this new chapter.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Mohaddeseh Mousavi Nezhad, who joined the committee in 2018 and has served as Chair since InterPore2019 in Valencia. Mohaddeseh’s thoughtful leadership and dedication have been instrumental in ensuring that truly deserving candidates were recognized over the years. We are grateful that she will continue to support the committee as an advisor and past chair during this transition.

About the New Chair and Co-Chair

Marcel Moura is a researcher at the PoreLab Centre of Excellence at the University of Oslo, where he also earned his PhD in 2016. His research primarily explores experimental aspects of multiphase flow across scales, from the pore level to the Darcy scale, with a particular focus on the intermittent burst dynamics during slow drainage processes and effects related to film flow. Marcel has been an active member of InterPore since his student days. He has served as Chair of the Student Affairs Committee and is a founding member of the Norwegian Chapter of InterPore. He also co-chairs the InterPore Young Academy and is one of the organizers of the Porous Media Tea Time Talks, a YouTube-based initiative that highlights the work of early-career researchers.

Sarah Perez is a research associate in the GeoEnergy group at Heriot-Watt University, where she develops AI-driven solutions for uncertainty quantification in subsurface processes, with a particular emphasis on Geological Carbon Storage. She earned her PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Pau in France, investigating reactive flows and fluid-rock interactions at the pore scale using micro-CT imaging and numerical simulation. Her work combines data-driven approaches and artificial intelligence to enable robust propagation of uncertainties during the upscaling process. Her current research addresses model misspecification and geological uncertainty in fractured media to assess fault-related leakage risks across scales. Sarah is actively involved in the InterPore community, having served as the PhD representative on the steering committee of the France InterPore Chapter. She also contributes to the InterPore Young Academy and the Porous Media Tea Time Talks initiative.

Call for New Committee Members

Marcel and Sarah are now leading the renewal of the Student Awards and Grants Sub-Committee and are inviting applications from across the global InterPore community. Individuals at all career stages are encouraged to apply.

We welcome applicants from a diverse range of research fields and backgrounds, with the aim of forming a committee that reflects the diversity of the InterPore community. Consideration will be given to ensuring broad representation in terms of discipline, career stage, gender, and geographical provenance.

If you are planning to attend InterPore2026 and are interested in contributing to the committee's work, please submit:

    • Your CV
    • A brief statement of interest

by 1 September 2025 to Sarah Perez at S.Perez@hw.ac.uk.

We look forward to welcoming new voices and perspectives to the committee!
