InterPore Newsletter 2021 (20) featuring Letter from the president
Sent on: 19-07-2025Dear InterPore colleagues,
I got involved in a strong discussion with a friend who in Dutch would be called a “wappie”
(translates to a combination of a conspiracy thinker and a nutter), although he would refuse to be
called a “wappie”. He is just “investigating everything”. Based on figures and so-called independent
numbers from the internet in general and social media in particular, he claims that COVID isn’t so
bad, all the measures against COVID are far too strong and that the vaccine is dangerous and
unnecessary. Hang on, numbers independent from what!?

InterPore Newsletter 2021 (17) featuring Plenary Speaker Abraham Stroock
Sent on: 19-07-2025Dear InterPore friends,
Summer vacation is upon many of us. This includes our Editor-in-Chief, Matthijs, as well as many of
you who would otherwise be sending us items to publish. As a result, the newsletter this week is
short and sweet, with a look at another great plenary speaker to InterPore 2022, the Kimberly-Clark
Distinguished Lecturer, and some new faces in the Program Committee.
Happy reading!

InterPore Newsletter 2021 (16) featuring the Website Task Force and search for Twitterer
Sent on: 19-07-2025Dear InterPore colleagues,
Suppose we push alternating pulses of air with ~95% relative humidity (37 degrees C) and air with
40-50% rel. humidity (20 degrees C) through a thin fabric. The temperature of the fabric increases,
but won’t reach 37 degrees C, so condensation occurs, leading to water accumulation in the fabric,
which increases the resistance to air flow. What will be the final load of condensed water in the
fabric?

InterPore Newsletter 2021 (14) featuring new short courses coming up
Sent on: 19-07-2025Dear InterPore friends,
Today’s Newsletter looks into the (near) future. The last opportunity for the book on porous media
research in images. A one of its kind (or the start of something new). New short courses are
announced and we look ahead to InterPore2022.

InterPore Newsletter 2021 (13) featuring a new task force for porous media research in Africa
Sent on: 19-07-2025Dear InterPore friends,
It is time to shift focus. InterPore2021 has been evaluated and all the comments and feedback taken
onboard for InterPore2022. And while the northern hemisphere is getting into a summer break mood,
new initiatives are coming up. Our new InterPore president, Michel Quintard, is promoting a task
force to strengthen porous media research across the African continent. As editor-in-chief, I hope
to further promote the scientific exchange within our InterPore community through our Newsletter.

InterPore Newsletter 2021 (12) featuring Message from our new InterPore president
Sent on: 19-07-2025Dear InterPore Friends,
The InterPore2021 has finished. Well, not really, as all talks and posters are still available
online. I think it was a great success. Some occasional technical issues occurred, but that is the
same with in-person conferences, right? A frozen laptop or failing projector. And all issues were
quickly solved by magnificent technical support.
