Lesson Plan

Objective: Build foundational knowledge of geothermal systems and fluid and heat flow dynamics in porous media.

Introduction to Geothermal Energy
  • Types of geothermal systems: Hydrothermal, Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS), and closed-loop systems.
  • Global potential and utilization of geothermal energy.
Principles of Fluid and Heat Flow in Porous Media
  • Governing equations for heat and mass transfer in geothermal reservoirs.
  • Key rock and fluid properties relevant to geothermal systems.
Estimating Geothermal Reserves
  • Concepts of accessible and extractable geothermal energy.
  • Estimation methods: Volumetric method, numerical simulation, and respective data sources.
