About UK-Ireland InterPore
The InterPore UK–Ireland joint chapter was formed in 2026 to bring together the porous media communities of the United Kingdom and Ireland. It builds on the rich history and achievements of the UK Chapter, established in 2015 to promote the exchange of research ideas on porous media across all disciplines of science and engineering.
The joint Chapter strengthens collaboration between the United Kingdom and Ireland, connects complementary expertise across both countries, and widens participation among their academic and industrial communities. Its remit spans biological and biomedical systems, energy, environmental processes, and engineering and manufacturing applications. Through shared conferences, mini-symposia, workshops and networking activities, the Chapter provides opportunities for scientific exchange and research collaboration, alongside mentoring and professional development for students and early-career researchers.
The UK Chapter has been one of InterPore’s most active national chapters, organising regular scientific meetings and contributing to the Society’s management and organisational activities. Its conference series has included meetings at Heriot-Watt University (2015), Loughborough University (2016), the University of Warwick (2017), the University of Aberdeen with TOTAL (2018), Teesside University (2019), Brunel University (2022), and the University of Manchester (2024). The eighth conference took place at Loughborough University in 2025, followed by the ninth at Heriot-Watt University in 2026. Gaps in the series reflected the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020–2021 and the global InterPore conference in Edinburgh in 2023.
The UK Chapter received the 2025 InterPore National Chapter Award, recognising its sustained activity, strong membership and strategic leadership.
Building on this foundation, the joint UK–Ireland Chapter aims to develop an inclusive, interdisciplinary community that advances porous media science and its applications across both countries and beyond.
