The Secret Life of Soil: Biofilms, Flow, and Hidden Pollutants
Join us for an exciting talk with Xiaofan Yang on "The Secret Life of Soil: Biofilms, Flow, and Hidden Pollutants."
Xiaofan Yang is a professor at Beijing Normal University. Her work focuses on flow and reactive transport in porous media, in particular, understanding how microbes live and form biofilms in soil and water, and how these processes are affected by environmental factors like microplastics.
What Will You Learn?
- Learn what microbial biofilms are and why they matter in natural soil environments.
- Discover how tiny yet hidden pollutants (microplastics) can affect these biofilms and the surrounding soil system.
- See how scientists use models and simulations to study these invisible underwater interactions.
