Dear InterPore friends,
Today’s newsletter features the InterPore Academy pre-recorded Short-Course series. If you have
missed a
short course or want to suggest the course to a colleague, this is your chance. When composing this
Newsletter, I came to realize that we probably would not have had this feature without the highly
accelerated
extending of online possibilities. A year ago, we’d be travelling across the globe.
Of course, we need in-person contact. Online meetings won’t fully replace in-person meetings. As a
complimentary option it helps extending our global interaction. Of course, the InterPore2021
conference (abstract deadline February 9, please submit your abstract here) will be a new example of
interacting
online. In particular, I have high hopes for the online poster sessions that closely resemble an
in-person
poster session (with video-chatrooms for each poster).
We went to extremes. From completely offline to completely online. What is your vision regarding a
mix of
both? What should online and in-person look like? For InterPore2022? Feel free to drop me a line.
All the best,
Matthijs de Winter
Editor-in-Chief
InterPore News
Following the feedback we received from InterPore2020, we will make the pre-recorded oral
presentations
available for viewing 9 days prior to the conference so that you don’t miss a thing – no matter
where you are.
New at InterPore2021, there will not just be live Q&A sessions but “real” oral presentations of
10
minutes followed by 5 minutes of live Q&A.
Furthermore, poster presentations will be as close to an in-person presentation as we can get, e.g.,
there
will be a video chatroom available for each poster presenter during poster session, allowing not
only for
discussions but also exchange of images.
InterPore Foundation for Porous Media Science and Technology (InterPore Foundation) has set up a
limited number
of conference grants, funded by generous donations from InterPore members. These grants include
conference fee
waivers for the InterPore2021 online conference.
The deadline for submitting an application is Tuesday, 30 March; however, you are
encouraged
to apply as soon as possible. The applications will be evaluated by the Conference Grant Committee,
and
successful applicants will be notified by Tuesday, 06 April.
For more information, please visit the website.
Don’t miss a moment!

German Chapter meeting
The German Chapter of InterPore, organized by SFB 1313 of the University of Stuttgart, will hold its
next
assembly on 1-2 February 2021. Despite the pandemic, a strong demand for a scientific exchange in
the
community is felt, especially during these difficult times. Therefore, it has been decided to change
to an
online meeting.
The meeting will feature five plenary talks and more than 40 short talks in various fields of
porous-media
research. For detailed information please visit the homepage.
Mexican Chapter meeting
The community related to research, development, and applications of porous media is invited to
participate in the Annual Meeting of the Mexican InterPore Chapter (RACMI 2021), which in this
occasion due to
the circumstances of COVID-19, will be held online on 4-5 March 2021. The Mexican InterPore Chapter
(CMI) is
part of the International Society of Porous Media (InterPore).
If you are interested in participating in RACMI 2021, please register here
and submit your one-page abstract before 5 February 2021.
