The Process Engineering, Environment and Agri-Food Research Laboratory (GEPEA), a joint research unit of Nantes University, ONIRIS, IMT Atlantique and the CNRS, conducts research into the characterisation, efficiency and filtration mechanisms of fibrous media within its Treatment Water Air Metrology team. Pollutants under study include particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5, PM1, nanoparticles, soot, bio-contaminants), as well as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and toxic gases.  The team also investigates the performance of air treatment processes by analysing initial performance and how it evolves, and by recreating realistic clogging/saturation scenarios, aerodynamic instability and changes in scale.
