InterPore News featuring EquiPore, MiniPore and award winners!

Sent on: 17-02-2026

Dear InterPore colleagues,

As a Dutch national, I have particular interest in the Olympic ice skating competitions. Some very exciting races took place already, with some Dutch gold medals as well. Just imagine that these athletes work 4 straight years with the  singular purpose of an Olympic medal. Working for 3-4 years (or more) with a particular purpose is not strange to us, except that our gold medal is called a PhD degree, still at the cost of intense labour ethics.

As in top sports, also the scientific community is reflecting on ethical questions such as “what else is important in life?” InterPore2026 will see sessions on this. The EU is also interested along these lines. And when you read the Newsletter, you'll see that after 4 years, there is more to win!

This and more in today’s Newsletter.

All the best,

Matthijs de Winter

EquiPore and MiniPore invite all InterPore2026 participants to attend an informal discussion addressing the practical aspects of balancing professional careers with caregiving responsibilities.

Date: 20 May 2026
Time: 10:15 – 11:00 AM (during the first coffee break)
Location: InterPore2026, Nantes

This session will provide an opportunity for an open exchange on topics commonly encountered within the research community, including conference travel, scheduling considerations, childcare logistics, networking while managing caregiving duties, and ways the community can better support researchers and families.

The discussion will focus on sharing experiences and identifying practical strategies that may contribute to improving conference participation and inclusivity.

Caregivers, partners, children, and allies are warmly welcome. Beverages will be provided.

Join us in the afternoon on Monday, 18 May for a relaxed excursion into the heart of the Muscadet wine region. Participants will enjoy a guided visit to a local wine cellar and tasting, surrounded by the vineyards south of Nantes. The trip includes bus transportation and a scenic stop at Porte-Vue in Château-Thébaud overlooking the Sèvre Nantaise valley.

Cost: €70 per person. The excursion will take place only if a minimum number of participants is reached, and payment will be requested upon confirmation. Register your interest via the form to secure your spot.

We are pleased to announce that LTRACE Geosciences and Interface Fluidics will join InterPore2026 as exhibitors. Both companies bring innovative tools and expertise to the porous media community.

We are delighted to welcome these first-time exhibitors and look forward to the valuable industry–research exchange they will bring to InterPore2026!
