We are looking to fill two postdoctoral scholar positions in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Irvine. These positions focus on modeling coupled hydro-thermo-chemo-mechanical (HTCM) processes, particularly applied to enhanced geothermal systems. They are part of a broader, multi-institutional initiative—Geophysicist.AI—that brings together domain scientists and AI researchers from across UC campuses and national laboratories to advance the frontiers of geoscience.

While the overarching project involves machine learning and AI, these two positions will concentrate on developing both low- and high-fidelity computational models of HTCM processes. Each position is a long-term opportunity (2 years with potential for a 1-year extension) and offers rich avenues for collaboration with Lawrence Livermore and Los Alamos National Labs and research groups at other collaborating University of California campuses. These positions will help prepare the successful applicants for the next phase of their careers—whether in academia, national labs, or industry.
