InterPore News featuring the Executive Committee and InterPore Council transitions

Sent on: 11-12-2025

Dear InterPore colleagues,

Busy times with the start of InterPore2025 in two weeks time! I hope all tickets, ESTA forms, hotel bookings, conference courses and social activities have been arranged! I still have to work on my presentation. Luckily, I have a long flight ahead of me to wrap things up. The good old scientific rat race! Well, I know it is old, I am not so sure whether it is good.

Anyway, today’s Newsletter looks also further than the conference, with national chapter meetings coming up as well. And how nice and valuable these chapter meetings are, as you can find in the reports from recent events.

All the best,

Matthijs de Winter

It’s not too late to join one of our conference courses! Whether it’s Sergi’s course on Geochemical reactions in porous media: overview and modeling basics, Nicolae’s course on Thin porous media and complex fluids: interactions in printing, Dorthe & Masa’s course on the Importance and quantification of interfaces in porous media, or Sahar’s course on Pore- and reservoir-scale flow simulation for geologic carbon storage, space is available in all 4 conference courses.

Contact margaret.dieter@interpore.org if you would like to add a conference course to your existing registration.

On Wednesday during the conference, InterPore2025 attendees are invited to experience the breathtaking Sandia Peak Tramway.

The tramway offers a 15-minute ascent over 2.7 miles, rising from 6,559 to 10,378 feet, providing panoramic views of Albuquerque and the Rio Grande Valley. At the summit, attendees can enjoy a leisurely hike and witness a stunning sunset.

InterPore2025 will be in Albuquerque. This week's cultural highlight:
The Turquoise Trail: A Scenic Journey

An unforgettable journey through stunning desert landscapes, rich Native American heritage, and charming historic towns. The Turquoise Trail National Scenic Byway provides an ideal opportunity to experience the diverse culture and natural beauty of the region in a leisurely drive. Named after turquoise, a gemstone that has been mined in the region for centuries, the route showcases New Mexico's deep ties to Native American, Spanish, and Anglo cultures. This 50-mile trail passes through iconic landmarks, including Albuquerque’s historic Old Town, the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, Tijeras, Cedar Crest, Madrid, and Cerrillos, offering stunning vistas, and unique communities that feel frozen in time.

InterPore2025 Sponsor: Thermo Fisher Scientific

Understanding the porosity of a material, whether it is a defect or a feature, is critical for its continued quantification. For example, understanding the various types of porosity defects can guide adjustments in the manufacturing process to improve the material's properties. In a material that is porous by design, the expected level of porosity can be altered through conception changes. Imaging techniques such as microCT, FIB-SEM, SEM, and TEM allow for the analysis of porous materials to quantify micropores, sponge-type voids, large macro-voids, inclusions, and so forth.
At Thermo Fisher Scientific, we strive to provide innovative analytical solutions. For over 20 years, the Thermo Scientific Avizo Software and Thermo Scientific PerGeos Software have evolved closely with the scientific community. They provide a reliable, fully automatable, customizable, and easy-to-use software solution so you can innovate faster.

May 1st marked the transition to the new composition of our Executive Committee and InterPore Council.

We would like to thank the departing members for their valuable contributions to InterPore, including Michel Quintard as Past-President, and Veerle Cnudde and Benoît Noetinger as past Council Members.

With that, we welcome our new President-Elect, Ann Muggeridge, as well as Linda Luquot and Marijn Boone who have both joined the Council.

Best of luck and we thank you for taking up this work!
