Lunch Forum: Scientific Leadership in our Evolving Global Landscape

Professor Tiina Roose will discuss various aspects of scientific leadership, based on her personal career development across multiple continents and geographic borders. She will highlight important structural issues that can limit career progress, including the bystander effect, and how these can be overcome through collaborative leadership.

Prof. Roose will then be joined by representatives of InterPore leadership (Majid Hassanizadeh) and membership (Samuel Krevor) to discuss the Interpore community’s approach to career support for researchers from all backgrounds in the context of a heterogeneous and changing international landscape. The event will be moderated by the InterPore Ombudsperson, Linda Abriola.

It’s not too late to join one of our conference courses! Whether it’s Sergi’s course on Geochemical reactions in porous media: overview and modeling basics, Nicolae’s course on Thin porous media and complex fluids: interactions in printing, Dorthe & Masa’s course on the Importance and quantification of interfaces in porous media, or Sahar’s course on Pore- and reservoir-scale flow simulation for geologic carbon storage, space is available in all 4 conference courses.

Contact margaret.dieter@interpore.org if you would like to add a conference course to your existing registration.

InterPore2025 will be in Albuquerque. This week’s cultural highlight: Native American Culture

Albuquerque sits at the heart of Native American heritage in New Mexico, home to nearby pueblos like Sandia and Isleta, and rich with traditions that span thousands of years. For visitors, it's an opportunity to connect with living cultures through art, history, and celebration.

Start your journey at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, where exhibits, performances, and native cuisine offer a window into the lives of the 19 Pueblos of New Mexico. Explore Petroglyph National Monument, where ancient carvings tell timeless stories, or visit local galleries in Old Town featuring authentic Native jewelry, pottery, and weaving.

Native culture in Albuquerque is vibrant and present—not just history, but a living part of the city's soul. Engage with it thoughtfully, and you’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for this unique corner of the Southwest.

TESCAN has a 30-year history of developing innovative electron microscopy, micro-computed tomography, and related software solutions for customers in research and industry worldwide. TESCAN has a leading position in multi-scale characterization of porous media, from nano- to centimeter scale. TESCAN’s high-end product line includes micro-computed tomography, FIB-SEM and 4D-STEM.

At InterPore, TESCAN puts micro-computed tomography in the spotlight, showing the unique capabilities of the three main products: UniTOM XL, UniTOM HR and DynaTOM. Through dynamic micro-CT and spectral CT, TESCAN adds new dimensions to micro-CT imaging.

TESCAN Dynamic micro-CT solutions are opening new possibilities for uninterrupted in-situ dynamic experiments in a wide range of industries and in academic research. High temporal resolution, continuous and uninterrupted scanning, and specialized 4D software tools bring synchrotron-like capabilities to the lab.

TESCAN UniTOM XL SPECTRAL is the world’s first introduction of full spectral CT in a commercial micro-CT system, and provides unique contrast capabilities and absolute identification of unknown elements through K-edge images. TESCAN Spectral Suite enables user to perform absolute density measurements and determine the atomic number of any point inside a sample.
