Dear InterPore colleagues,

All set for InterPore2025? I've got my ticket, hotel, and conference registration. Still to do: choose the sessions I will attend. That is usually a hard choice, with so many good options and great people to meet! And, of course, I’ll be preparing my own contributions.

Looking forward to meet you in Albuquerque!

All the best,

This week in Must See…!: Route 66

Route 66, the iconic "Mother Road," has a rich history and deep significance in Albuquerque. Established in 1926, this historic highway stretches from Chicago to Santa Monica, with Albuquerque serving as a key stop along the way.

Route 66 runs through the heart of Albuquerque, providing a nostalgic journey back to the golden age of American road trips. Travelers can explore a variety of must-visit stops along Central Avenue, the city's main section of the highway.

Avizo Software at InterPore 2025
AI-powered porosity measurement from imaging data

Understanding the porosity of a material, whether it is a defect or a feature, is critical for its continued quantification. Imaging techniques like microCT, FIB-SEM, SEM, and TEM allow for the analysis of porous materials to quantify micropores, sponge-type voids, large macro-voids, inclusions, and so forth.

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, we strive to provide innovative analytical solutions. Enhanced with AI and automation capabilities, Thermo Scientific Avizo Software offers digital tools for the visualization, processing, and quantification of porous materials.

Meet our team at InterPore 2025 at booth #3 and ask them how our software solutions can help with the challenges you are facing. Make sure to catch a live demonstration of the latest version of Avizo Software for visualization, processing, and quantification of porous materials. Meet our team and discover how we can help you push the boundaries of your research.

Math2Market - Innovation through Digitalization

Math2Market’s GeoDict software is used worldwide for computer-aided material analysis, design, and optimization. GeoDict digitally determines and predicts material properties on various scales and these results are used for material analysis, design, and optimization.

Our technical and highly competent team offers customer- and application-specific software adaptations, project work, sound scientific support, training, workshops, and innovation conference. We advise and support in all material research, analysis, and development needs for our customers to bring forward material research in a fraction of the time and cost.

We’re excited to share the release of the conference proceedings from the 16th Annual Meeting of InterPore (InterPore2024) – a compilation of cutting-edge research and insights in the field of porous media.

Prof. Lyesse Laloui, from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology at Lausanne (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland, is the Kimberly-Clark Distinguished Lecturer of 2026.

As the winner of this distinguished award, Prof. Lyesse Laloui will be giving one of his two lectures at selected institutions. Hosts may select one of two options:

  • Lecture 1: Tailoring Soil Properties through Bio-Geo-Chemical Engineering
  • Lecture 2: Carbon Dioxide Injection into Deep Aquifers: a Geomechanical Perspective

For detailed information about the lectures, please visit Prof. Laloui’s page.

If your university/institution is interested in hosting Prof. Laloui, please fill out the application form in our website until 31 December 2025.

Between 24 March and 1 April, Prof. Rainer Helmig was in China for an extensive tour. In his own words…

The trip was really great. My colleagues did a great job organizing everything, and the hospitality was simply fantastic. I would especially like to thank Prof. Chaozhong Qin, Chongqing University, and Bo Guo, University of Arizona.
I gave nine lectures at different universities.  I really enjoyed the discussions with students, doctoral candidates, post-docs and professors. I realized that InterPore is very important for the whole research field in China.

In April, Prof. Helmig will give two in-person presentations: the kick-off meeting of the Maghreb InterPore Chapter in Monastir, Tunisia, on 15 April and at the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC) in Barcelona, Spain, on 23 April.
