InterPore2026 Conference Course #2: The Physics of Drying

Join Philippe Coussot from Université Gustave Eiffel for the course “The Physics of Drying.”

Drying, or the evaporation of liquid from porous materials, is a key process in many fields, including the paper and textile industries, food production, agriculture, chemical processing, and civil engineering. Understanding how water moves and evaporates within porous media is essential for controlling drying dynamics and material properties.

This course introduces a physical approach to convective drying based on the coupling between boundary conditions (such as vapor diffusion around a material) and internal diffusion processes that evolve with the local water content. Drawing on recent experimental observations, including MRI and NMR relaxometry, the course explores how dominant physical mechanisms determine the main regimes and dynamics of drying for different materials.

Participation in the conference courses is in-person only (online participation is not possible.) Registration for conference courses can be made in conjunction with your conference registration. If you would like to register for a conference course, but will not be attending InterPore2026, please contact margaret.dieter@interpore.org to obtain a registration form.

Registration Fee: €85 (For InterPore2026 Participants) / €130 (Conference Course only)

Details: Participants should bring paper and pen
