Bo Guo is an Associate Professor and University Distinguished Scholar at the University of Arizona. His research centers on fluid flow and transport in porous media, with an emphasis on multiscale mathematical and computational modeling. His group studies environmental and energy problems in Earth’s subsurface, including contaminant transport in soil and groundwater, chemical weathering in the critical zone, shale oil and gas production, and geological carbon storage. Bo was among the first researchers to investigate PFAS fate and transport in soil and groundwater. His group has developed PFAS transport modeling tools widely used by practitioners and regulators internationally to assess groundwater contamination risks and support environmental decision-making.

Bo earned his B.S. from Tsinghua University and Ph.D. from Princeton University, and completed postdoctoral research at Stanford University. He is a Humboldt Research Fellow and Mercator Fellow with longstanding collaborations at the University of Stuttgart and its DFG Collaborative Research Center 1313. His honors include the National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award and the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Hydrologic Sciences Early Career Award. Selected by the National Ground Water Association as the 2027 Henry Darcy Distinguished Lecturer, he will present his research at universities, research institutions, and industry organizations around the world next year.

Bo joined InterPore in 2016 and has chaired its Membership Committee since 2021. He has also served on the Program Committee and organized minisymposia at multiple meetings. He chairs the AGU Hydrology Section’s Groundwater Technical Committee and serves as Vice Chair of the 2028 Gordon Research Conference on Flow and Transport in Permeable Media. In 2024, he chaired the 25th Computational Methods in Water Resources (CMWR) Conference in Tucson, Arizona, which brought together more than 230 participants from 26 countries.
