InterPore Newsletter: And the award winner is...
Sent on: 14-03-2025
Dear InterPore colleagues, We live in a world of headlines, and (outside of those in InterPore News!) many are rather unsettling at the moment. Fortunately, our work provides us commonality, reminding us that regardless of their politics, people are still people, real human beings. Despite the messaging, we should be resilient, excel in compassion and push for the greater good. Happy Lunar New Year to our community members in Asia, may your year be off to a happy and healthy start! Our contributions to society are shared during InterPore2025 (see updates below) amongst other events. We have have an award winner to announce! Plus Chapter updates, some concrete science (pun intended...!) and more! All the best, Matthijs de Winter ps: As you'll notice, the Newsletter looks already much better than two weeks ago, but not up to the standards we're used to. Work in progress! |

Inulin biopolymer as a novel material for sustainable soil stabilization
Sajjad Deylaghian, Ehsan Nikooee, Ghassem Habibagahi & Thomas Nagel Around 8 to 10% of global annual CO2 emission is attributed to cement industry. Although replacing 4 billion tons of cement produced globally and annually by other materials would be a very challenging task, even replacing a small percentage of cement can save emissions as much as annual emission of Latvia. Our proposed alternative is inulin. Used in drug delivery, given its functional sites, as prebiotic, given its durability in human digestive system, as a matrix for scaffolds used in tissue engineering, given its strength, inulin, favoring lots of agricultural waste sources, had not been tasted/tested in construction technology.
