Dr. Adriana Paluszny, plenary speaker, 22 May, 9:50 – 10:20 am
We would like to invite all women/non-binary/fluid InterPore2023 participants to contribute interviews to the Watson Forum video channel. Your contribution would take approximately 10 minutes to record and would make a lasting impression on a fellow scientist or A-level student watching you talk! Whether you are a student or a professor, a modeller or an experimentalist, please come and share with us your experience as a porous media researcher, and send yourself a message to the past!!
If you’re interested in participating in an interview for the Watson Forum video channel, please contact Dr Adriana Paluszny.
The Watson Forum was developed in 2016 to foster a sense of community in the fields of numerical modelling, simulation, and programming, and create a sparse but permanent and accessible record of the women who work in this area. Many of the women interviewed for the Watson Forum are from the fields of earth sciences and porous media, and interviewees often have hybrid careers that combine numerical and analytical modelling with other activities, such as experimental and field work. For more details, visit this YouTube channel.
The Student Team Building Activity and Game Night will be held at 6:00 pm on Tuesday night at BrewDog Pub’s Lothian Road location! Please note that the pub has informed us that they can only guarantee space for 100 participants. Therefore, this event is strictly limited to students and entry will be on a first-come-first-served basis. The schedule of events is as follows:
6:00 pm Arrival, drink, and human scavenger hunt
6:30 Rock paper scissors tournament
7:00 Porous media related pub quiz
7:30 Build the highest tower with spaghetti, string, tape, and a marshmallow
8:00 Raffle
The Student Affairs Committee and Local Organizing Committee look forward to welcoming you at this exciting evening of fun and networking!
We’re hoping to find a volunteer to help capture images of the speakers, attendees, and activities at InterPore2023. If you’re passionate about photography, we’d love to have you join our team. You’ll have the opportunity to showcase your skills and be a part of a great community of volunteers.
If you’re interested in volunteering as a photographer, please contact us.

COMSOL is a global provider of simulation software for product design and research to technical enterprises, research labs and universities. Its COMSOL Multiphysics® product is an integrated software environment for creating physics-based models and simulation applications. A particular strength is its ability to account for coupled or multiphysics phenomena. Add-on products expand the simulation platform for structural, electromagnetics, heat transfer, fluid flow, acoustics and chemical applications.
COMSOL’s dedicated add-on product tailored for the modeling and analysis of porous media includes functionality for modeling single-phase flow in porous media based on Darcy’s law, Brinkman equations, and Richards’ equations, as well as fracture flow and a combination of free and porous media flow.
For the most realistic and accurate models, multiphysics capabilities include non-isothermal flows in porous media, effective properties for multicomponent systems, poroelasticity, and transport of moisture and chemical species. The Porous Media Flow Module helps engineers from multiple industries, including agricultural, chemical, civil, and nuclear sectors.
Interfacing tools enable the integration of COMSOL Multiphysics simulations with all major technical computing and CAD tools on the computer-aided engineering (CAE) market. Simulation experts rely on COMSOL Compiler™ and COMSOL Server™ to deploy applications to their design teams, manufacturing departments, test laboratories and customers throughout the world.
