MS22: Porous materials are key components of many industrial applications. This minisymposium aims to provide the platform for researchers to exchange knowledge about their challenges, achievements and research questions related to design, characterisation and fabrication of porous materials applied in industrial applications. Read more…

MS20: This minisymposium will focus on modeling and characterization of living porous systems (plants, tissues, cell agglomerates, organs, etc.) and related applications in engineering sciences, biology and medicine. Within this context, theoretical and experimental approaches based on porous media mechanics are playing a pivotal role on understanding the behavior of such reactive multiphase systems. Read more…

MS10: For this minisymposium we invite contributions that focus on advancements in 3D imaging techniques or 3D analysis software to study porous media as well as contributions that integrate these new developments in experiments and real case studies. Read more…

MS06-B: The existence of fluid-fluid and fluid-solid interfaces introduces a plethora of coupled physical, chemical, and biological phenomena which are key to multiphase flow in heterogeneous porous materials. We aim to bring together scientists across disciplines and with various expertise (numerical, experimental, and theoretical modeling) to share their state-of-the-art findings and challenges in this minisymposium. Dr. Rouhi Farajzadeh
TU Delft, Netherlands

Title: Thermodynamic efficiency/limit of subsurface energy production / storage systems

Rouhi Farajzadeh is an Associate Professor of Reservoir Engineering at Delft University of Technology and a Senior Reservoir Engineer with Shell. His research interests include flow in porous media, CO2 sequestration, underground energy storage, life cycle assessment of energy systems and enhanced oil recovery methods. He is recipient of 2018 SPE Reservoir Description and Dynamics Regional Award.

To mitigate the negative impacts of increasing CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere on climate change complementary decision tools should be considered when selecting or evaluating the performance of certain (sub-surface) energy production and/or storage systems. Here we explain the framework in which the subsurface energy system could be analyzed using the exergy concept based on the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Here we explain the … continue reading

Special Focus on Energy Transition

Image removed.

Confronted with the biggest and most difficult global challenge to mankind, efforts are intensifying to move away from fossil-based energy sources to zero-carbon energies. Therefore, InterPore2023 will have a focus theme on Energy Transition. A leading expert in energy transition will give a plenary lecture, and then, during a lunch forum, a panel of experts will engage in a discussion with the participants regarding the current urgent research needs in various energy transition technologies and methodologies.

We want to highlight contributions related to this theme in the program. Please let us know if your abstract is related to Energy Transition by selecting from the drop-down menu when submitting your abstract.

Please find more information in this pdf (159 kb).

Registration fees
