Afshin Goharzadeh, HDR, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi, UAE. He has more than 25 years of experience in engineering education and research, including over two decades in the Middle East. His international academic background includes research experience at the Max Planck Institute in Germany and an HDR (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches) in Energy and Process Engineering from France.
His research interests include experimental fluid mechanics, multiphase flows, transport phenomena, fluid-porous media interactions, heat transfer, micro/nanofluidics, and advanced optical diagnostics. His work combines fundamental research with applications in energy, flow assurance, sustainable fuels, and engineering systems.
He is also strongly engaged in engineering education, engineering design, graduate mentorship, and curriculum development, with growing interests in integrating artificial intelligence and data-driven methods into engineering research, design, and education.
Through InterPore, he is particularly interested in promoting international and interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge exchange, and stronger connections between porous-media research, engineering applications, industry, and education.
