Call for nominations for InterPore awards

The nomination campaign is open for the following InterPore awards:

Time Capsule

Often we know those pioneers of our field from their scientific work. We are aware of their scientific legacy and the technical details of their achievements, but usually we don’t actually know much about their personal history, motivations, and philosophy.

Such knowledge would be valuable to current and future researchers in general and porous media scientists in particular. As the International Society for Porous Media, we have a duty to provide a mechanism to record such knowledge and make it available to our community.

The InterPore Time Capsules will be a collection of interviews with some of the most eminent contemporary porous media scientists, who have played a major role in the development of porous media science and technology. The interviews are usually carried out by one or two well-known scientists who have had some kind of professional connection to the interviewee.

Suggestions for candidates for InterPore Time Capsule interviews can be sent to the chair of Honors and Awards Committee by any member of InterPore. The H&A Committee will consider and thoroughly discuss the suggestions twice a year and recommends three top candidates to the Executive Committee. For each candidate, the H&A Committee will also recommend names of two or three potential interviewers.

Nomination packages should include:

  • a nomination letter (maximum length two pages) signed by four scientists
  • the candidate’s CV (maximum length ten pages)
  • list of publications

Nominations of truly outstanding candidates are solicited from all branches of porous media science and technology. At least two of the nominators should be InterPore members but the nominee does not need to be an InterPore member.

The nominee must be renowned and well established and have a long track record in porous media research and technology. The nomination should highlight the most important achievements of the candidate and make clear the contributions to the advancement of the ideals and aims of InterPore. One major criterion is the scientific services of the nominee to the porous media community and of course his/her other lifetime scientific achievements and contributions. Nominations should be submitted to nomination@interpore.org.

Honorary Lifetime Membership Award

The Honorary Membership Award is reserved for individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to porous media science and technology, who are world renown in the porous media community, and whose contributions are consistent with the aims and ideals of InterPore. This award will be given to only one individual per year. The award consists of a certificate, lifetime InterPore membership, and a travel grant of 1,000 € for participation in the InterPore Annual Meeting and Conference.

Nomination packages should include:

  • a nomination letter (maximum length two pages)
  • the candidate’s CV (maximum length ten pages)
  • list of publications
  • up to five supporting letters (maximum length two pages each)

Nominations of truly outstanding candidates are solicited from all branches of porous media science and technology.

The nomination should highlight the most important achievements of the candidate and make clear the contributions to the advancement of the ideals and aims of InterPore. Nominations should be submitted to nomination@interpore.org.

InterPore – PoreLab Award for Young Researchers

The International Society for Porous Media, InterPore, on behalf of PoreLab, a center of excellence jointly formed by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the University of Oslo, announces a Young Researcher Award in recognition of outstanding contributions in the field of porous media from a fundamental point of view. The research may be theoretical, computational, or experimental.

Nominees must be PhD students or Postdoc researchers who obtained the PhD degree no longer than three years before the award nomination deadline.

Nomination packages should include:

  • a full CV of the candidate

PoreLab will pay for the travel and housing expenses connected with the stay. Also the awardee will receive an award certificate and an InterPore rosette at the InterPore annual conference of the following year.

Procter & Gamble Award for Porous Media Research

The InterPore Procter and Gamble Award for Porous Media Research is given in recognition of outstanding contributions to topics related to swelling porous media, very thin porous media, and modelling of interfaces between porous media. The award includes both 5,000 € and an award certificate.

Nomination packages should include:

  • a nomination letter (maximum length two pages) including explicit reference to the contributions to the aforementioned topics
  • up to two supporting letters (maximum length two pages)

Nomination packages should be submitted to nomination@interpore.org.

Kimberly-Clark Distinguished Lectureship

Each year, InterPore selects a porous media researcher with a very high international recognition as the “InterPore Kimberly-Clark Distinguished Lecturer on Porous Media Science & Technology”. The Lectureship award is sponsored by a gift from Kimberly-Clark Corporation to the InterPore Foundation. The awardee will share a topic relevant to the industrial porous media community through a series of lectures at various member and non-member organizations.

The Awardee will be selected by the InterPore Foundation at the recommendation of a selection committee. Nominations should be submitted to foundation@interpore.org. The nomination letter (maximum length two pages) should include explicit reference to the nominee’s outstanding record as a lecturer and the significance of her/his research for industrial porous media.
