InterPore Managing Director receives Royal medal of honor

M Hassanizadeh 146MRsIn a ceremony at Utrecht University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Majid Hassanizadeh, Managing Director of InterPore, was given a Royal medal of honor: the medal of Ridder in de orde van Nederlandse Leeuw(in English:Knight of the Order of Netherlands Lion). The mayor of city of De Bilt handed over the medal in front of an audience of more than 130 friends, colleagues, and students of Majid. 
The Mayor explained that Prof. Hassanizadeh was awarded this medal for his insight and dedication in the broad application of his knowledge of hydrogeology. The motivation for this distinction had been his exceptional record as a professor, researcher, and lecturer in the field of porous media flow and transport. He is considered an authority in the field of porous media and his work has received national and international recognition. Also, the role of Prof. Hassanizadeh in founding InterPore and leading it to maturity had been an important factor in earning him this honor.  Other major recognitions of Majid have been his election as Fellow of American Geophysical Union(2002), as Fellow of American Association for Advancement of Science (2007), and as Henry Darcy Distinguished Lecturer (by the US National Groundwater Association, 2012); he has received honorary degree of Doctor-Ingenieur from Stuttgart University (2008), von Humboldt Foundation Prize (2010), and Don and Betty Kirkham Soil Physics Medal (from Soil Science Society of America, 2011).
