InterPore President-Elect receives two prestigious awards

Professor Tissa Illangasekare, who started his term as President-Elect of InterPore in May, has recently received two prestigious awards:

–          He has been selected as Langbein Lecturer by the American Geophysical Union (AGU). The Langbein Lecturer is selected for lifetime contributions to the basic science of hydrology and/or unselfish service promoting cooperation in hydrologic research. Additional consideration may be given for candidates who are renowned as a lecturer and/or as an educator.  A list of past Langbein lecturers is available on the Hydrology section website.

–          He has been elected as Fellow of the Soil Science Society of America (SSSA). Fellow is the highest recognition bestowed by the Soil Science Society of America. Members of the Society nominate worthy colleagues based on their professional achievements and meritorious service. Up to 0.3 percent of the Society’s active and emeritus members may be elected Fellow.

Prof. Illangasekare holds the AMAX Endowed Chaired Professorship of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Colorado School of Mines. Professor Illangasekare is the founder and director of the Center for the Experimental Study of Subsurface Environmental Processes (CESEP) at Colorado School of Mines. He is an internationally recognized research leader in multiphase flow modeling in porous media as applied to subsurface hydrology, land-atmospheric coupling, carbon storage, soil gas migration and remediation.

Professor Illangasekare has received many major recognitions, including, Fellow of AGU, AAAS, SSA and ASCE, as well as the European Geophysical Union’s 2012 Darcy Medal. He also has an honorary doctorate in science and technology from Uppsala University, Sweden. In the past, he served as a co-editor of Vadose Zone Journal and editor Water Resources Research. He is a member of NAS- Nuclear and Radiation Studies Board.
