Dear InterPore colleagues, This week’s newsletter features once again an impressive and diverse list of job opportunities. I wonder whether this is some sort of post-Covid effect. We all came to a standstill during the onset of the pandemic and right now, we’re catching up. “Catching up” is an important theme of the annual InterPore meetings, and today, the local organizing committee reveals some of their social activity plans for Edinburgh2023. Half a year away may still sound like a long time, but we’ll all be hiking to the top of Arthur’s Seat in no time! As for catching up with scientific work, you may not need to wait half a year. The newsletter offers to InterPore members the possibility to promote their publications within the community. Have a look at the InJournals section on how to do that. All the best, Matthijs de Winter
Abstract submission open until Monday, 12 December! Did you know….Edinburgh?InterPore2023 will be in Edinburgh. Edinburgh has a lot of things to offer with respect to science, science history and porous media. This week the Royal Botanic Garden: Edinburgh is home to the Royal Botanic Garden, one of the finest botanic gardens in the world. Situated just one mile from the city center, the Garden offers fantastic views of the capital’s skyline, featuring Edinburgh Castle and the Scott Monument. It is famous for its Chinese Hillside, Rock Garden and Scottish Native Plants Collection, offering peace and tranquility to its 2 million visitors per year, free of charge. Invited Speaker at InterPore2023Prof Raffaella Ocone Title: The Rheology of Granular Media: from Engineering to Geological Applications Abstract Granular materials exhibit a broad range of intricate dynamic behaviors. The study of their hydrodynamics is extremely relevant in the chemical and process industries, where those materials are widely handled and produced. Building upon previous findings applied to the process industry, the talk explores the challenges associated with the dynamic behavior of dry and wet granular material and discusses recent experimental and modelling efforts on the flowability of pyroclastic powders. Pyroclastic powders are investigated with… continue reading Bio Raffaella Ocone holds the Chair of Chemical Engineering at Heriot-Watt University, UK, since 1999, and she is Guest Professor at Ruhr University, Bochum, Germany. In 2007 she was appointed Cavaliere (Knight) by the President of the Italian Republic. In the Queen’s 2019 New Year Honours she was appointed Officer of the British Empire (OBE) for services to engineering. Raffaella was named as one of the top 100 Most Influential Women in the Engineering Sector in 2019 in the list produced by board appointments firm Inclusive Boards in partnership with the Financial Times.
SAC Social EventsThe Student Affairs Committee (SAC) is organizing a number of fun and inspiring events. Events open to all:

Promote your PublicationInterPore Members can promote their publications to the community via the InterPore In Journals Section of the Newsletter. If you wish to do so, please submit your publication highlight to newsletter@InterPore.org. Clearly indicate which of the authors is an InterPore member (or the institute with an Institutional Membership). Note that we will not review the entries nor does InterPore endorse the published work. Furthermore, we publish on a “submitted first, published first” basis. The highlighted publication should be no older than 6 months (available online). The highlight should be short (max 100 words) and contain an illustration. Please note that we offer this opportunity exclusively to InterPore members. If you would like to become a member, please have a look here.
