Jun Yao is the Local Organizing Committee President of InterPore2020 and Vice President of China University of Petroleum (UPC). UPC is a key national university directly affiliated with the Ministry of Education and was awarded the distinction of “Double First-Class Discipline University” in 2017. A multi-disciplinary and well-rounded university focusing on petroleum and engineering, UPC is regarded as one of the best universities in the field of petroleum-related subjects in China. The high-level education it provides has produced a deep talent pool for the petroleum and petrochemical industries. Among its alumni are CEOs of major oil companies, members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences as well as the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

The university now has two campuses. The main campus is located in Qingdao, known as “the Sailing City” and “City by the Sea” for its charming scenery. It faces Tangdao Bay and is backed by Little Pearl Hill and its picturesque scenery. The other campus is in Dongying, the central city on the Yellow River delta and nationally known as “the City of Oil”. The Dongying Campus serves as a base for research and practice.
