The experience of Dr Prodanović visitng China for the first time:

(Dr Masa Prodanović)

Moving through the airport was no problem. My hosts were very involved and organized my transportation.

LOC will arrange shuttle buses between airport and the Shangri-La Hotel.

I stayed in a hotel right next to campus. The hotel was great as staff spoke English and I could use my credit card. It had multiple options for food, one of them being a large buffet which makes it easy to pick food (you just put it on the tray, it does not matter if you don’t know to speak). I personally enjoyed trying out all of the food regardless of whether I know how it is called.

The Shangri-La Hotel offers three on-site restaurants. Café Yum serves an international buffet of seafood, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Western cuisine, fresh salads and tempting desserts and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Flying Catch offers contemporary Mediterranean cuisine for lunch and dinner. Shang Palace serves high-quality Huaiyang cuisine and selected Cantonese dishes, as well as local and regional specialties, and is also open for lunch and dinner.

Moving around the city was fine. The waterfront is nicely maintained as a walkway/park, and the main roads actually have names in English in addition to the Chinese names.

I visited Laoshan national park, and I had two students with me to guide me around.   Otherwise I would be hopelessly lost. I’d be able to pay at the entrance, and after that it would be difficult to get around. An organized visit would be a great idea – it was beautiful and I think a lot of people would enjoy it.

LOC is preparing recommendations for one-day Qingdao tours organized by a third-party travel agency for participants interested in exploring Qingdao during their visit.

I used an online Visa service – https://www.passportvisasexpress.com. It is a paid service but it was fast and efficient. I am US citizen, I am not sure if it works for non-US participants. There are multiple other companies present online.

For detailed information on visas, including Qingdao’s 144-hour visa-free transit policy, visit the conference website.
