All past FlashNews and Newsletters are online here: E-Newsletter Dear InterPore colleagues, The Dutch ministry of health, including my institute, is under scrutiny for taking insufficient action against unsafe working environments. The news sparked vivid conversations and long apologetic emails from the director and management team with firm action (plans). The question is even more complex in the international context of InterPore, as (to some extent!) manners and perception are part of the culture, not to mention the geopolitical tensions. InterPore has the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion committee striving for a safe community where science can be shared and discussed. Let’s work with them to make InterPore2024 and the IP Chapter Meetings a success for everyone! Share in the joy of the award winners, nominate worthy candidates and take an interest in the scientific achievements. And now… Qingdao!InterPore2024 will be in Qingdao. Described as a city of “red tiles, green trees, blue sky, and blue sea.” Qingdao has a lot of things to offer with respect to science, science history and porous media. This week: Shilaoren Beach photo by 李子木 Shilaoren Beach, one of the largest seaside bathing beaches in Qingdao urban area, is located at the southern end of Haier Road in Laoshan District, Qingdao, Shandong Province. It is a comprehensive tourist beach integrating vacation, sightseeing tourism, water sports, and beach activities. The coastline of Shilaoren Beach is approximately 3100 meters long, with a beach width of over 100 meters, covering an area of approximately 280,000 square meters. The sea swimming area covers about 240,000 square meters. It attracts around 3 million visitors annually. At the easternmost end of Shilaoren Beach, southwest of Shilaoren Village and at the foot of Wushan Mountain, there is a cliff facing the sea on the southern side. About 100 meters from the shore stands a pillar approximately 17 meters high, resembling an old man sitting amidst the azure sea, hence earning the nickname “Shilaoren”. InterPore Conference Grants

This book is intended for researchers and students who are interested in hydrogeology, hydrology, water resources, structural geology, reservoir engineering, underground waste disposal, or other fields that involve the flow of fluids through fractured rock masses. Classical and established models and data are… read further Unveiling moisture transport mechanisms in cellulosic materials: Vapor vs. bound waterY. Zou, B. Maillet, L. Brochard, P. Coussot Natural textiles, wood, hair, paper, wool, or bio-based walls possess the remarkable ability to store humidity from sweat or the environment through “bound water” absorption within nanopores, constituting up to 30% of their dry mass. The transport and storage mechanisms of this moisture remain poorly understood, with modeling often relying on an assumption of dominant vapor transport with an unknown diffusion coefficient. By isolating diffusion processes and deriving diffusion coefficients through rigorous experimentation our research addresses this knowledge gap, in particular demonstrating the pivotal role of bound water transport within interconnected fiber networks.
